Flight mode is a setting on electronic devices designed to disable certain wireless functions such as calls and text messages. However, there are other terms that refer to this feature such as "airplane mode", "offline mode", "no service mode" and "restricted access mode". "Airplane mode" was popularised because it is for travellers on airplanes, who are required to turn off wireless connectivity during flights. "Offline mode" is commonly used on mobile phones that have no cellular service or network coverage. "No service mode" is used when the phone is unable to detect any cellular service.
