A floppy disk, also known as a diskette, was a widely used storage device for personal computers in the 1980s and 1990s. Over time, new and improved technology has made the use of floppy disks redundant. However, the term "floppy disk" has been a part of our vocabulary for so long that we still use it to describe other similar storage devices.
Some synonyms for floppy disk include diskette, floppy, disk, 3.5-inch disk, and also the slang term "flippy disk". Other terms used synonymously are Zip disk, Jaz drive, and SuperDisk. However, these devices were introduced later and are considered successors to the traditional floppy disk.
