A flying lemur is also known as a colugo. It is a gliding mammal native to Southeast Asia. Colugos are arboreal animals that use their skin membranes on their arms, legs, and tail to glide from tree to tree. They are often referred to as "flying lemurs," but they are not actually true lemurs, nor do they fly. Colugos are also known as a cobegos, Philippine flying lemurs, or tree shrews. Despite their name, colugos are not related to primates or rodents, but they are taxonomically classified as part of the order Dermoptera.
