Forficula Auricularia is a scientific name for a common earwig. However, there are other terms used to refer to this insect. Some people simply call it an earwig, while others use the name pincher bug. Another term that is sometimes used is the European earwig, since the species originated in Europe. In France, the insect is known as perce-oreille, while in Germany it is called Ohrwurm. Despite its negative reputation for supposedly crawling into human ears, the earwig is actually a beneficial insect that helps control other pests in gardens.
