The frozen section procedure is a commonly used test in medical settings to diagnose diseases and conditions. In this procedure, a small sample of tissue is removed from the patient and quickly frozen using liquid nitrogen. Once frozen, the tissue sample is thinly sliced and examined under a microscope to look for any abnormalities. However, there are a few other synonyms for this procedure that one might come across such as intraoperative pathology consultation, rapid biopsy, quick pathology or cryosection. Though the terminology may differ, the principles and objectives of the procedure remain the same, which is to provide quick, accurate diagnosis and treatment recommendations to the patient.
