Furious rabies is a term used to describe the highly aggressive form of the viral disease. The symptoms of this form of rabies include intense agitation, aggression, and an inability to swallow which leads to foaming at the mouth. The disease is usually fatal once symptoms appear. There are several synonyms for the term furious rabies including raging rabies, violent rabies, and aggressive rabies. Other terms used to describe the disease include mad dog disease and hydrophobia, which refers to the fear of water that can develop as a result of the inability to swallow. Rapid treatment after exposure to the virus can prevent the onset of the disease.
