Genus Blissus is a group of insects that commonly inhabit grassy areas and feed on the sap of plants. These bugs are known by various names, including chinch bugs, chinch beetle, Buffalo treehopper, hairy chinch bug and Blissus leucopterus. Despite the different names, the genus is characterized by their elongated and narrow body, and a mouthpart that allows them to suck the plant sap. Some of these insects are considered pests, especially when they cause damage to crops and turfgrass. However, they are also important in the ecosystem as they serve as food for other animals like birds and reptiles.
