Genus Epipactis consists of a group of flowering plants that are commonly known as "helleborines" or "ghost orchids." Other synonyms for this genus include "Epipactis L.," "epipactide," and "helleborine orchid." There are around 70 species of helleborines that can be found throughout Europe, Asia, and North Africa. These plants exhibit highly variable morphology, which often makes identification difficult. Some of the distinguishing features of helleborines include their green or brownish flowers, which often have a distinct lip or spur, and their long, thin leaves. Despite their beauty, many species of helleborines are considered threatened due to habitat loss and other environmental factors.
