Genus Gerres refers to a group of marine fish species that belong to the family Gerreidae. These fish are commonly known as silver-biddies, mojarras, and silver silversides. Silver-biddies grow up to 30cm in length, and their bodies are elongated and slender. They are silver in color, with a streamlined appearance, adapted for moving through waterways quickly. These fish are widespread and commonly found in shallow waters along the coasts of Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Americas. The Gerreidae family contains many other species similar in appearance known colloquially as silver-biddies, making them difficult to tell apart.
