Genus Ischigualastia is a group of extinct herbivorous dinosaurs which lived about 228 million years ago. The name Ischigualastia is derived from the Ischigualasto Formation, a geological formation located in Argentina where the fossils of these dinosaurs were first discovered. Other synonyms for the Genus Ischigualastia include "Ischigualasto-saurus" and "Rauisuchian reptiles". The classification of this dinosaur group is still debated, however, it is believed that they may have been related to the sauropods, a group of long-necked dinosaurs. The study of Genus Ischigualastia helps scientists understand the evolution of herbivory and the diversity of dinosaur species during the early Jurassic period.
