Genus Lagorchestes refers to a group of mammals native to Australia commonly known as hare-wallabies. These animals are so named because of their resemblance to hares (hares are of genus Lepus, not Lagorchestes). Other common synonyms for Genus Lagorchestes include the Rufous hare-wallaby and the Spectacled hare-wallaby. These small marsupials are largely herbivorous and have a thick, bushy tail that they use for balance. Sadly, many species within Genus Lagorchestes are endangered due to habitat loss, introduced predators, and hunting. Conservation efforts are underway in Australia to safeguard these unique creatures for future generations to enjoy.
