Genus Mugil is a group of fish commonly referred to as Grey Mullets. However, there are other names used to describe these fish depending on their location and characteristics. In North America, they are often called Striped Mullets due to their distinctive stripes. In other regions, they can be known as Flathead Mullets, Sea Mullets, or Diamond Mullets. Similarly, in some areas, their scientific name is referenced as Mugil cephalus, whilst in others Mugilidae is used to describe the overall family of Grey Mullets. Regardless of the name used, these fish are renowned for their unique, elongated shape and their potential to form large shoals.
