Genus Procnias, also known as the bellbirds, is a group of Neotropical passerine birds that are known for their distinctive calls. Synonyms for the Genus Procnias include the family Cotingidae, bellbirds, and antwrens. Bellbirds get their name from the characteristic bell-like sound that they produce, which can be heard from over a kilometer away. This call is often used to attract a mate or to establish territory. Antwrens, which are also part of the family Cotingidae, are a smaller and less well-known group of birds that often live in the same habitats as the bellbirds. Even though these birds have different names and distinct characteristics, they are all related and belong to the same group of Neotropical birds.
