Genus Pseudoryx is often referred to as "false oryx" due to its resemblance to the oryx genus. Another synonym for Pseudoryx is "saola", which means "spindle horns" in Vietnamese. This is due to the genus' unique and striking horns that have a distinct spiral shape. Pseudoryx also goes by the name Vu Quang ox, as it was first discovered in the Vu Quang Nature Reserve in Vietnam. The species within the Pseudoryx genus, Pseudoryx nghetinhensis, is critically endangered and faces threats from hunting, habitat loss, and unsustainable development. Conservation efforts are underway to protect and restore the habitat of Pseudoryx and preserve this important species.
