Genus Quiscalus is a grouping of bird species commonly referred to as grackles. These birds are known for their stout bodies, glossy black feathers, and piercing yellow eyes. There are several synonyms used to describe Genus Quiscalus, including the American blackbird, crow blackbird, and purple grackle. Despite their common name, grackles are not true blackbirds, but are New World relatives of the European starling. Some other members of the Quiscalus genus include the great-tailed grackle, boat-tailed grackle, and rusty blackbird. With their distinctive vocalizations and bold personalities, grackles have become a familiar sight and sound across much of North America.
