Genus Uropsilus is a group of small nocturnal animals belonging to the family Talpidae. These burrowing mammals are found in the mountainous regions of Southeast Asia such as China, Thailand, Vietnam and Laos. They are commonly known as shrew moles due to their resemblance to both shrews and moles. Other synonyms for the genus include Asian shrew moles, Uropsilus shrews, and Talpidae Uropsilus. These creatures have unique physical features such as large feet that help them dig underground tunnels in search of their prey. Genus Uropsilus species are known to feed on insects and worms. They play a vital role in the ecosystem as they aerate the soil through their burrowing activities.
