Geotropic is a term that describes a plant's natural inclination to grow or move in response to the pull of gravity. However, there are a number of synonyms for this word that can be used in place of geotropic. Some of these include gravitropic, orthotropic, tropic, and plant tropism. Each of these synonyms has a slightly different connotation, but all refer to the same fundamental characteristic of plants, namely their ability to sense and respond to gravitational forces. Whether seeking to describe the way in which roots grow downward or the way in which stems grow upward, any of these synonyms for geotropic will serve the purpose well.
