Gestational hypertension is the term for high blood pressure that develops during pregnancy. This condition is also known as pregnancy-induced hypertension or PIH. Other synonyms for gestational hypertension include prenatal hypertension, pregnancy-related hypertension, and hypertensive disorders in pregnancy. In more severe cases, gestational hypertension may progress to preeclampsia, another condition characterized by high blood pressure, excess protein in the urine, and other symptoms. It is important for pregnant women to receive regular prenatal care, including monitoring of blood pressure, to identify and manage gestational hypertension and other potential complications.
