Glossodynia Exfoliativa, commonly known as geographic tongue, is a harmless and non-contagious condition that affects the tongue. It is characterized by red, smooth, and patchy areas on the tongue, which can change in shape and size. While the condition does not require medical treatment, there are several synonyms that people may use to describe it, including migratory glossitis, wandering rash of the tongue, benign migratory glossitis, erythema migrans, and erythema migratory. The condition is typically self-limiting and can go away on its own, but individuals who experience discomfort or pain may benefit from anti-inflammatory medications or topical anesthetics.
