Grógaldr is an Old Norse term that refers to a type of spell known as "grove magic" or "growth magic". It was traditionally used by Nordic peoples during the Viking Age to encourage the growth of crops and other plantlife. Although there are no direct synonyms for the word Grógaldr, there are other terms used in Norse mythology and magic that hold similar meanings. These include "álfkona", which means "elf woman" and is associated with fertility and growth; "Seiðr", a form of Norse magic used for divination and healing; and "hex" or "curse", which can refer to any kind of spell that is intended to cause harm or misfortune.
