The Guadalupe fur seal, scientifically known as Arctocephalus townsendi, is a rare marine mammal found in the waters of the Pacific Ocean near the Mexican coast. This species is sometimes referred to as the Townsend fur seal or the Mexican fur seal. The characteristics of this animal include a dark brown coat, a broad head, and a distinct snout. Guadalupe fur seals are known for being excellent swimmers and are often spotted in large groups near the shorelines. As a protected species, hunting and commercial use of their fur is strictly prohibited, and conservation efforts are made to ensure their population remains stable in the wild.
