Guelder Rose, also known as Viburnum opulus or European cranberry bush, is a deciduous shrub found in Europe, Asia and North America. This plant is popular for its ornamental and medicinal use and is frequently mentioned in literature. Its name comes from the Dutch province of Gelderland where it was once used as an eyewash. Some synonyms for Guelder Rose include water elder, cramp bark, dog rowan tree, snowball bush and May rose.
