Gynandromorph is a term used to describe an animal or plant that has both male and female characteristics. In the animal kingdom, gynandromorphs have been reported in a variety of species, including butterflies, birds, and crustaceans. Synonyms for gynandromorph include hermaphrodite, androgynous, intersex, and pseudohermaphrodite. Hermaphrodites possess both male and female reproductive organs, while androgynous individuals have characteristics of both sexes but may not necessarily possess both reproductive organs. Intersex pertains to individuals who do not fit traditional male or female categories, whereas pseudohermaphrodites are individuals with ambiguous genitalia. Although these terms are often used interchangeably, they have specific meanings in biology and medicine.
