Half asleep, or partially awake, is a state between being asleep and fully awake. There are many synonyms for this state, including drowsy, groggy, lethargic, sleepy, and somnolent. Other alternatives include hazy, fuzzy, dreamy, and sluggish. Each of these words describes the state of being partly conscious and partly unconscious, with a slow and somewhat disoriented feeling. It's a lot like walking around in a fog, with the senses dulled and reaction times slowed. Whether it's from lack of sleep, medication, or just a natural body rhythm, being half asleep can be a challenge to manage. However, with these synonyms in mind, it's easier to describe and discuss this state of being.
