Hamadryads is a term used to describe the tree nymphs of Greek mythology, and as such, there are a variety of synonyms that one could use to describe similar beings. Dryads are nymphs who preside over forests in general, but particularly trees. They are often associated with oak trees specifically. Meliae are nymphs of ash trees, and Oreads are nymphs who reside in mountains. The Naiads are nymphs of bodies of water, including springs, rivers, and fountains. Additionally, there are numerous deities associated with nature, including Pan, god of the wild, and Artemis, goddess of the hunt and wild animals.
