Hinayana Buddhism, also known as Theravada Buddhism, is a traditional form of Buddhism that is primarily followed in Southeast Asia. It emphasizes the monastic lifestyle and the pursuit of personal enlightenment through meditation and mindful living. Alternative terms to Hinayana Buddhism are Early Buddhism or Southern Buddhism. Another synonym for this form of Buddhism is Small Vehicle, which refers to the belief that it focuses on individual liberation rather than the salvation of all beings. However, the term "Small Vehicle" can be seen as derogatory by some and is no longer commonly used. Regardless of the terminology used, the core beliefs and principles of Hinayana Buddhism remain the same.
