Home Parenteral Nutrition (HPN) is a form of medical treatment where a specialized solution of nutrients is infused into the body through a catheter that is inserted into a vein. The procedure helps nourish patients who cannot absorb food through their gastrointestinal (GI) tract adequately. HPN is also known by several other names, such as Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), Home IV Nutrition, and Enteral Nutrition. Although these terms may vary in meaning, they all refer to the same medical therapy. HPN helps those who cannot receive adequate nutrition through regular oral intake to maintain their health and quality of life.
