Humble pie, a phrase used to describe a humiliating experience or apology, has a variety of synonyms. A person might be said to be eating their words, or crow, when they are forced to admit they were wrong. They might be eating a slice of humble pie or getting their comeuppance when they are facing the consequences of their actions. Being put in their place, knocked down a peg, or taken down a notch are also similar expressions. When someone is forced to swallow their pride and accept a difficult situation, they could be said to be eating humble pie.
