Hyper-sensitivities refer to the tendency of experiencing exaggerated or extreme reactions to stimuli. Some synonyms for the term include hypersensitive, overreactive, reactive, highly-strung, irritable, intolerant or delicate. Each of these synonyms describes the varying degrees of sensitivity that different people might experience in response to different stimuli. People who are hypersensitive might feel emotionally overwhelmed or reactive in social situations, whereas those who are overreactive might be more prone to physical discomfort or irritation. Those who are reactive might be easily triggered by sensory inputs such as light, sound, or touch, while people who are highly strung might experience a general sense of anxiety or tension.
