Hypercoagulable states refer to conditions where the blood has a higher tendency to clot than usual. This can lead to increased risk of serious medical conditions like deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and stroke. There are several synonyms for hypercoagulable states which include thrombophilic states, prothrombotic states, and clotting disorders. Thrombophilia is a genetic condition where there is an increased tendency of blood clotting. Prothrombotic states refer to conditions that increase the likelihood of clot formation such as Factor V Leiden mutation, antiphospholipid antibody syndrome and malignancy. Clotting disorders are conditions such as Hemophilias, von Willebrand's disease, and factor deficiencies that increase the likelihood of bleeding or clotting.
