Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) is a technique used to analyze the elemental composition of samples. However, there are several synonyms for this term which are commonly used. These include inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), plasma optical emission spectroscopy (POES), inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) and inductively coupled plasma spectral analysis (ICP-SA). All of these synonyms refer to the same basic technology, which involves generating a plasma from a sample, exciting the atoms in the plasma, and then measuring the resulting emission to determine the elemental constituents of the sample. These techniques are widely used in analytical chemistry and are essential for many scientific studies.
