Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (INAD) is a rare and fatal genetic disorder that affects the nervous system. It is also known as neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation type 1 (NBIA1) or Seitelberger disease. Other synonyms for INAD include Neuroaxonal Dystrophy, Azorean disease, and Huerfano disease. INAD is characterized by motor and cognitive regression as well as a loss of muscle coordination and control. Symptoms typically begin to surface between the ages of six months and three years, with an average expectancy of around five years of life. Unfortunately, there is currently no cure for this devastating illness. However, early detection and treatment can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
