Ivan III Vasilievich, more commonly known as Ivan the Great, was a powerful ruler of Russia during the late 15th century. As such, many synonyms and alternative names have been used throughout history to refer to him. Some have referred to him as Ivan III of Russia, while others have used the title Grand Prince of Moscow. He is also sometimes referred to as Ivan III the Terrible, a title that was later used for his grandson Ivan IV.
