Jaish-e-Muhammad is a banned terrorist group in Pakistan that has been responsible for several attacks in India, including the 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament in New Delhi. Jaish-e-Muhammad is also known as Jaish-e-Mohammed or Army of Muhammad. Other synonyms for Jaish-e-Muhammad include Army of Islam, Khuddam ul-Islam, and Tehrik ul-Furqan. The group was founded in 1999 by Masood Azhar, a Pakistani Islamist leader who was released from an Indian jail in exchange for hostages held by his group after the 1999 Indian Airlines Flight 814 hijacking. The group is designated as a terrorist organization by India, Australia, Canada, the European Union, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.
