The term "Japanese Islands" refers to the archipelago of islands which consists of four main islands - Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku - and numerous smaller islands. Alternatively, the Japanese Islands can also be referred to as the "Nihon Koku" or the "Land of the Rising Sun". Geographically, these islands are situated in the Pacific Ocean and are a part of the larger East Asian region. Culturally, these islands are known for their rich history, traditions, and unique cuisine.
