The Japanese Red Army was a militant group that emerged in Japan in the late 1960s. This group was also known by some other names. These synonyms are the Japanese Communist League-Red Army Faction, the Anti-Imperialist International Brigade, and the Anti-War Democratic Front. They were affiliated with the Soviet Union and largely operated outside of Japan. The group was responsible for several terrorist attacks, including hijacking an airplane in 1970. The Japanese Red Army was eventually dismantled in the 1990s after several of its members were captured or surrendered. Despite the group's demise, its legacy lives on as one of Japan's most notorious extremist organizations.
