JMB is a term used by the government to refer to certain radical Islamist groups in Southeast Asia. While the acronym stands for "Jamaah Ansharut Tauhid" in Indonesia and "Jemaah Islamiyah" in other countries, there are several synonyms that have been used to describe these groups over the years. Some of these synonyms include "Islamic State Southeast Asia," "Southeast Asian Mujahideen," "Abu Sayyaf Group," "Al Qaeda in the Malay Archipelago," and "Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters." While these groups have different names and origins, they share a common goal of establishing a strict Islamic state and have been responsible for numerous terrorist attacks in the region.
