Kentrosaurus is a genus of dinosaur that lived about 155-150 million years ago during the Late Jurassic period. It was a herbivorous dinosaur that belonged to the stegosaur family. The word "kentrosaurus" comes from the Greek words "kentron" meaning "spike" and "sauros" meaning "lizard". This dinosaur was named for the spiky plates that lined the back of its body. While there are not many synonyms for the word "kentrosaurus", it is also sometimes referred to as "K. aethiopicus" or "African Kentrosaurus" due to its discovery in Tanzania, Africa.
