Kite fighting has come to be known by many names across the world. In Brazil, it is called 'pipa combate' while in Afghanistan it is known as 'gudiparan bazi'. 'Fighting kites' is the term used in English, and in India, the activity is known as 'patang baazi'. In Thailand, where the sport is deeply entrenched in the culture and tradition, it is called 'chula' or 'pakhao'. In many parts of the world, however, the term 'kite battling' is also used to refer to this practice. Regardless of what it is called, there is no doubt that kite fighting has become an important cultural and social phenomenon across the world.
