Kodkod is a small wild cat that can be found in parts of Chile and Argentina. This diminutive feline is also known by several other names or synonyms, such as Oncifelis guigna, güiña, Chilean cat, or Chilean lynx. The kodkod is a specialist carnivore that preys on small rodents, birds, and reptiles, and is adapted to life in the dense forests and mountainous regions of the southern cone. This elusive and rare cat is considered to be vulnerable due to habitat loss and fragmentation, hunting, and illegal trade. Conservation efforts are underway to protect the kodkod and its unique ecosystem.
