The Kordofan giraffe also known as camelopardalis antiquorum has several synonyms that are often used interchangeably. Some of the common synonyms include the Sudanese giraffe, West African giraffe, or simply the Kordofan. This giraffe subspecies is found in the savannah woodlands of West Africa, mainly in Cameroon, Central African Republic, and Chad. As with all giraffe subspecies, the Kordofan giraffe has distinctive coat patterns and unique characteristics. Due to habitat loss, poaching, and hunting, this giraffe subspecies is listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Conservation efforts are underway to protect this fascinating species and to preserve its unique genetic variations.
