Lake Onega, also known as Onego or Ääninen, is a large freshwater lake located in the northwest of Russia. The lake covers an area of over 3,700 square miles and has a maximum depth of 210 meters. Known for its picturesque landscapes and clear waters, Lake Onega is a popular tourist destination. The lake is surrounded by dense forests and dotted with numerous islands, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kizhi Island. Other synonyms for Lake Onega include Onega Great Lake, Lake Ääninen, and Onego Lake. The lake is an important source of freshwater for nearby cities and is also home to a variety of fish species, including salmon and trout.
