Lake Winnipeg, the sixth largest freshwater lake in Canada, is also known by its Cree name, "Winipeg" or "Winipik" which means "murky water." The lake is also referred to as "Winnipeg Sea" due to its immense size. "Manitoba's Great Lake" is another nickname used for the lake due to its location in the province of Manitoba. It is a popular fishing and recreational spot, and thus is often called "Fisher's delight." Tourists also refer to the lake as "Summer's Getaway" due to its stunning beauty and numerous attractions available to explore during the warmer months. "The forgotten great lake" is a term used to call attention to the fact that, despite its size and beauty, Lake Winnipeg is not as well-known as other great lakes in Canada and the world.
