The "Lamper Eel" also known as Lamprey, is a primitive, jawless fish that lives in freshwater and coastal marine environments. Other synonyms for the Lamper Eel include Lampreda, Lampetra and Lampetrella. These creatures are unique due to their circular, suction-cup like mouths which they use to latch onto other fish and suck out their bodily fluids. They have been used as a food source for centuries, particularly in Europe where they are considered a delicacy. While the lamprey may not be a familiar creature to many, it has played an important role in the ecology and culture of certain regions throughout history.
