"Laser visa" is a term used to describe a particular type of visa that was once issued in the United States. While the term is no longer in use, there are several synonyms that can be used to refer to it. These include "machine-readable visa," "MRV," and "visa with a barcode." Regardless of the label used to describe it, this type of visa allowed for quick and easy processing at border control checkpoints, as the visa holder's information was contained in a readable format that could be quickly scanned by officials. Today, the MRV system has been largely replaced by electronic visa systems that rely on digital record-keeping and biometric identification.
