Leukemoid reaction is a medical condition in which the number of white blood cells increases significantly in response to an infection or other medical condition. There are several other terms that can be used interchangeably with leukemoid reaction, such as leukocytosis, leukemoid leukocytosis, and pseudo-leukemia. Leukocytosis is a condition where the total number of white blood cells increases in the blood. Pseudo-leukemia is a condition where the white blood cells are produced in large amounts but do not have the cancerous properties of leukemia. Leukemoid leukocytosis is a condition where the bone marrow produces an excessive number of white blood cells, usually over 50,000 per microliter.
