A "lobbyer" is a person who tries to influence decision-making by lawmakers or officials through various means such as persuasion, advocacy or lobbying. The term lobbyist has gained negative stereotypes due to the unethical and corrupt practices of some who engage in this profession. However, there are several other words that can be used interchangeably with lobbyist, such as advocate, influencer, representative, activist, spokesperson, intermediary, agent, or promoter. Regardless of what term is used, a person who lobbies for a cause should adhere to ethical practices and uphold the integrity and transparency of the democratic process.
