Louis the Stammerer, also known as Louis II, was a King of West Frankia between 877 and 879. His name "stammerer" comes from his speech impediment, which made him stutter when he spoke. Some synonyms for Louis the Stammerer include Louis II the Stutterer, Louis the Bald, and Louis the Younger. He was the son of Charles the Bald and his wife Érmentrude of Orleans. Louis the Stammerer was succeeded by his two sons, Louis III and Carloman II, who jointly ruled West Francia until their deaths in 882. Despite his speech impediment, Louis II was an effective ruler who managed to maintain peace and stability during his short reign.
