The marten cat, also known as the Scottish wildcat, is one of the rarest and most elusive predators in the UK. It is sometimes mistaken for domestic cats, but it is much bigger and wilder. Some of the synonyms for this majestic creature include Highland tiger, Highland lynx, and forest cat. The marten cat's thick fur and powerful claws make it a formidable hunter, able to take down prey much larger than itself. Unfortunately, habitat loss and human interference have contributed to a decline in marten cat numbers, making conservation efforts all the more important. By protecting these amazing animals, we also help preserve Scotland's unique ecosystem.
