Microclimatology refers to the study of small-scale weather patterns, specifically those occurring at the level of plants, buildings, or other microenvironments. To expand our vocabulary and avoid repetition, we can use alternatives such as microscale climatology, microclimate science, or microenvironmental meteorology. Other possible synonyms include microclimatic research, small-scale atmospheric analysis, or local weather monitoring. In addition, related fields that overlap with microclimatology could be called biological microclimatology, urban microclimate research, or horticultural climatology. Regardless of the terminology used, the study of microclimates is important for understanding and mitigating the effects of climate change on regional and local levels.
